La ville de Lilongwe est la plus grande et la capitale du Malawi. La ville est située dans la partie centrale du pays et c'est pourquoi en 1974, elle a été élue pour remplacer Zomba, qui était jusque-là la capitale. La ville est située sur les rives de la rivière Lilongwe, près de la frontière avec le Mozambique et la Zambie. Nous avons trouvé deux zones très distinctes dans les zones urbaines: la vieille ville regorgeant de magasins, de marchés et la partie la plus authentique et la moins développée, de l’autre la ville nouvelle où se trouve le siège du gouvernement, ambassades et grands supermarchés.
