About the destination: Lake Atitlán is a lake in the Guatemalan Highlands of the Sierra Madre mountain range. It is in the Sololá Department of northern Guatemala. ""Atitlan"" means ""at the water"" in Nahuatl. The main tourist attraction is the Indian's Nose at the top of the mountain above the cities of San Juan and San Marcos. It is accessible through various tracks and there are also organised trips with horses to the top.Lying in the countries most western highlands, the countries prettiest looking place is the pure and blue lake Atitlan. A large collapsed volcanic cone can be found right at the lake Atitlan. The descendants of the ancient placed called Maya, even today live off the land which is rich in ash and other minerals. The maize farming methods through the years have still been the same, this is because the local people have made an effort so that they don’t change their old ways of living.

It is surrounded by mountains, which makes Tegucigalpa one of the cities of Honduras with the nicest weather all year round. Tegucigalpa combines its Colonial architecture with modern office buildings. Parque Central, the city’s main square, is a gathering place downtown and has a good perspective of the hills around the city. The cathedral dominates downtown Tegucigalpa. It is in one side of the Parque Central. The cathedral was built in the 18th century and its altar is decorated with gold and silver and there is a lot of fine art inside. Just north of the capital we have La Tigra, one of Honduras's top and most accessible national parks.Tegucigalpa, filled with colonial charm, is a modern and lively city with a lot of things to do and places to visit. León is located along the Río Chiquito (Chiquito River), some 90 kilometres (56 miles) northwest of Managua, and some 18 km (11 miles) east of the Pacific Ocean coast. León has long been the political and intellectual center of the nation and its National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN) was founded in 1813, making it the second oldest university in Central America. León is also an important industrial, agricultural, and commercial center for Nicaragua, exporting sugar cane, cattle, peanut, plantain, and sorghum. The city has been home to many of Nicaragua's most noteworthy poets including Rubén Darío, Alfonso Cortés and Salomón de la Selva.
